Lilo & Stitch 7yr - Cardboard Palm Tree

Lilo & Stitch, 7yr -- Well it is that time of year again and I asked my daughter what theme she wanted for her 7th Birthday.  She said Lilo & Stitch.  It just so happens when I was a child of 7 my Grandmother went to Hawaii and got me a Hawaiian Muu muu.  I thought it would go nicely with the Lilo & Stitch theme with a Hawaiian twist. 

So I bought Lilo and Stitch invitations.  We had a total of 23 children at the party.  I had my daughter wear the Hawaiian Muu muu and I also found Lilo & Stitch sandals from the Disney Store.  I had my son wear a Stitch sweatshirt.  I decorated the house in flowers on the vine and grass skirts.  I had a corrugated Palm Tree in the corner of my hallway and next to it was 2 kick boards the kind you would use in a pool (they looked like small surf boards).  Each child was greeted at the door by my daughter giving out Leis and Hawaiian name tags with their name translated into a Hawaiian name (I found a wedsite that translated the English name to Hawaiian).  The girls all received a beaded grass skirt and a hibiscus flower clip for their hair and the boys got sailor hats. 

After the children were dressed up they went into the family room to do a craft.  The craft was a Hawaiian treasure box made out of Popsicle sticks, colored shells and foam fish.  I pre-made the bottoms and tops so they didn't have to wait for the glue to dry to decorate.  I also put miniature rolling pins on the tops to use as a handle for the lid.  After the craft we had them stand in front of the Palm Tree in their outfit for a photo.  The photo will be in their thank you card.  My daughter's photo will be the thank you card. 

After that they all played a game called hoop the Tiki.  I made a Tiki pool out of 4 square small moving boxes.  I wrapped each box up in white paper and taped pictures of characters from the movie.  The pictures were of Lilo, Stitch, Jumba, Plekley, Gantu, Dr. Hamstervile, Experiment 625, Nani, David, Cobra Bubbles and Council Woman.  The object of the game was to get the hoop over the Tiki with a Hula Hoop each child had 2 chances to hoop the Tiki. 

After they hoped the Tiki we all went downstairs to have an Experiment Hunt.  Each child had to find 2 Experiments.  I made laminated pictures of experiments with all their information such as Experiment No., name Lilo gave them, powers, weakness and final fate (the night before the party I hid them all). 

After that game we went over some of the Experiments.  Then the next game we played was toss the starfish through the life preserver.  Remember this party is in February.  It is very hard to find a life preserver.  So I made one out of a whicker wreath, white felt, red ribbon strips and red, white and blue rope.  The starfish were made out of two different colored felt hole punched and hand sewn with yarn and stuffed them with plastic beanies. 

After that game they all went up stairs for cup cakes ( they had sail picks with tropical scenes on them), tropical punch juice pouches, snacks and fresh fruit chunks.  I had the bakery make a cake that had tropical colors and flowers and placed a Lilo, Stitch and Mr. Stenchy figure on it for decoration.  After they finished their cupcakes we played pass the pineapple to the Lilo and Stitch sound track song Pineapple Princess.  After they got out the children all lined up to play pin Lilo or Stitch on the surf board.  I drew a beach scene on a poster board and found a picture of Lilo and Stitch surfing.  After they played that game we then did the Limbo to the Coconut song.  A

fter the limbo they all lined up to hit the Pinata in the shape of a Guitar (because Lilo had a Guitar on the invitation I thought it would go with the theme).  The pi±ata was filled with plastic sandwich bags with the kids name on it also with Lilo and Stitch stickers.  Inside the bags were HiC fruit snacks, Tropical Tie-dye Fruit Roll-ups, Fish ring pops, Tropical foil gum coins, Aloha candy rolls and  Tropical flavored Starburst candies.  Then the party was over and each child got a goody bag. 

The bags were hibiscus flowered bags with a pictures from the Lilo and Stitch movie and a hibiscus flowered name tag.  Each child got a tropical pencil, tropical pin ball, tropical maze game, sea animal puzzle, foil fish stickers, tropical tattoos and sunglasses.  The boys also got a Disney Jingle Bean of Stitch or Dr. Hamstervile.  The girls received a homemade felt coin purse made with rainbow yarn and two color butterfly buttons on the snaps. 

The other decorations I had up were: I drew Experiment pictures on a 12ft. Long banner which I had cut in certain areas to cover some of the toys downstairs, so the children would be able to concentrate on the games as opposed to pulling out all the toys and distracting the others.  I also hung downstairs Lilo & Stitch Happy Meal toys from the drop ceiling in the basement.  The party was from 2:00 to 4:30 and it ended on time.  It was a fun time had by all.  All the children also went home with all the stuff they received in the beginning of the party as well.
