We had a Mary Poppins party for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She was obsessed with the movie but I was frustrated trying to find Poppins party supplies. I had a book with color photos and made color copies. I cut out several pictures, glued them to 11x14 pieces of paper and wrote "It's a Jolly Holiday with _________"(each guest's name) on top. I then laminated them to use a placemats at the party.
I also enlarged some photos and glued onto poster board. One poster's title read "Have a SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALI DOCIOUS Birthday!" Another poster was used to play "Pin The Robin on Mary Poppins". Each child had a cut-out of a robin and blindfolded, tried to pin it on Mary's finger.
For decorations, I bought a black straw hat and glued cherries and daisies on it. I also found a white lace umbrella in the wedding shower section of a party store. I had an old vase with a picture of a carousel on it and placed flowers inside for the centerpiece. Finally, I used tea party paper tablecloths and napkins.
A local baker will use photos to decorate cakes and she was able to reproduce the video picture on the cake. Disney sells a CD with some "greatest hits" and I purchased the one with the 3 Poppins songs. The kids enjoyed playing musical chairs and dancing to "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "It's a Jolly Holiday with Mary". We all had a wonderful time!
