Luau, Lilo and Stitch- 1 year old birthday I have always wanted to throw a luau party and I thought what better occasion then for my daughter's first birthday. I wanted to add a children's theme to the luau so I chose Lilo & Stitch.
We rented a small clubhouse to hold the luau. I then created invitations on my computer. I took a picture of my daughter in her bathing suit, grass skirt and leis and placed the digital picture on my cardstock, computer generated invitations.
For decorations I purchased Lilo and Stitch Partyware from Party City which included plates, napkins, banners, centerpieces, streamers and matching balloons. I also purchased many decorations from Oriental Trading such a grass table skirts, flower door entrance curtain, leis, blowup palm trees, tropical floral "Aloha" balloons, hibiscus picks(For finger food), flower garland, and several different tablecloths.
The day of the party we decorated the front cake area with all the Lilo and Stitch decorations and the rest all the hall with the misc. Luau supplies. We used the Aloha balloons for centerpiecs and placed multi-colored Luau bubble gum coins around the centerpiece. It really all came together nicely when we finished.
We all wore tropical attire and when each guest arrived we gave them a leis and for the girls we also gave them a flower hair barrette to wear. They then each signed an autograph hula bear I purchased, so my daughter can see everone who attended when she get older.
We played tropical music and invited everyone to enjoy the buffet of food. We served a fruit platter(with the floral picks, cheese and crackers, meatballs, chicken fingers, Roast pork and rice.
After the meal we allowed some of the kids to go swimming in the pool and then they all came in to view our entertainment. My stepdaughter and two nieces, all decked in grass skirts and leis performed a luau dance they created. Everyone really enjoyed that! The kids then played pin the monkey on the tree(Oriental Trading and won various prizes.
They also played Pass the Hula Bear(Hot Potato)My husband also made some balloon animals for them which they really liked. It was then time to cut the cake which was a Lilo and Stitch cake from Publix. When the children left the party we gave Lilo and Stitch goody bags filled with hibiscus tatoos, fish shaped ring pops, tropical bubbles, and different types of candy. The small babies received a small book I purchased at the dollar store and bath toys.
It was a wonderful party!! I have just recently discovered your website and am so excited over all the great ideas. I am now planning a fairy birthday party for her 2nd birthday in Sept. and for my son turning 1, I will be planning a cowboy party in Jan., which I will be gathering ideas from your site. Thank you!
