For my son's 7th birthday, we celebrated with a basketball birthday party.

His big gift was an outdoor basketball hoop, which provided the main entertainment.  We also had a glow-in-the-dark indoor(nerf)hoop for an extra activity.  It was fun to turn off the lights and have a free-throw contest.

For a craft activity, we used small basketballs to "stamp" onto t-shirts (I got this idea from Family Fun).  We let these dry during the other party activities.

The cake was a simple round cake with orange icing and black icing for the seams (an example is on the Nick Jr. site.)

To receive their goodie bags, the kids played musical basketball to the tune of "Sweet Georgia Brown" (The Harlem Globetrotter's theme we downloaded from the internet).  They sat in a circle and passed around the ball until the music stopped.  Whoever had the ball, received his/her goodie bag.  We did this until everyone got a bag.

At the end of the party, the guests put their shirts on, for group and individual pictures.  We sent the pictures to the guests with their thank you cards.

Although this party was simple compared to others I've thrown, it seemed to be a lot of fun for guests of various ages and both genders.  I know it was especially memorable for the birthday boy!
