This was definitely the most extensive party we have given yet and everyone loved it! Especially our daughter.
INVITATIONS: For the Invitation I made a tree with a shaded rabbit’s hole at the base. On one side Alice’s feet were sticking out of the hole and when you opened you could see Alice falling down the rabbit’s hole. Left side: I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye! I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! Right side: Don’t be late for this very important date! X’s Un-birthday! Day: X, Time: X, Place: Wonderland (with address listed too). Then below the details it said: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm overdue. I'm really in a stew. No time to say goodbye, hello! I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!
DECORATIONS: Our entrance door was decorated with a huge tree I had painted on paper. It covered both of our double door entrance from top to bottom and on the side was an adult sized White rabbit (also painted, but with real buttons and a fluffy tail) complete with a gigantic wrist watch that he was pointing at. There was a rabbit’s hole cut out of the base of the tree for the kids to climb through in order to get to wonderland, and the drawing hung out from the door so that the adults could pass through on the side. Once in the entrance way there was a giant key and a small key hanging on the wall and 2 giant curtains hung from the ceiling to the right. In the middle of the two curtains we hung a drawing of the doorknob on his little door complete with the little red curtain that covered him. Each room in the house was decorated with a different scene from the movie. The first room was the caucas race. The room was decorated like the sea with blue table cloths, netting and fish and underwater animals hanging everywhere. The second stop was decorated with a simple brown carpet to sit on and a picture of Tweedle dum and Tweedle dee in the forest. The third room was decorated like a garden.
There were real pots filled with handmade paper flowers, a huge banner my kids had painted with flowers on it, green table cloths and stuffed flowers. The fourth room was split in half and half was decorated like the Mad Hatter’s tea party and the other half like the Red Queen’s garden. The Mad Hatter Tea Party was a huge table filed with mix matched tea cups and pots and paper plates shaped like tea pots and napkins of every color. Above the table were hanging lanterns, streamers, balloons, a shelf with more tea pots and cups, and two birthday signs. The birthday girl had a throne made out of a red chair covering covered with balloons. The other half of the room had giant cards posted up the fire place, two giant trees with white roses dripping with red paint on the wall, one card painting the roses on those trees, a cake table covered wit a red table cloth, card theme plates and napkins and cups and red silverware. There were playing cards glued all over the cake table even running down the front and sides. Then I made a handmade banner that said Happy Birthday to hang across the fireplace. It had red hearts, playing cards and the letters for Happy birthday hanging across it.
COSTUMES: My husband was the Mad Hatter, I was the White Rabbit, my son was a playing card, my mom was the Cheshire cat, my youngest daughter was the Red Queen, my friends were Tweedle dum and Tweedle dee and the birthday girl was Alice.
ACTIVITIES/GAMES: When the guests arrived they took a pic with the birthday girl in front of the rabbit’s hole to give later as a thank you and then crawled into wonderland. In the entrance way they all made their own mad hatter hats until everyone got there. I had a ton of fun stuff to use like string for hair, fake flowers, handmade ears shaped like the dormouse, the march hare, and the white rabbit, stickers, paint, markers. Then the kids all came outside and we took a picture in front of the entrance with everyone’s hats on. The whole evening’s activities followed the story of AW. They came back in and in front of the curtain with doorknob on it there was a little table with mini eat me cookies and drink me bottles. The kids loved this they ate their cookie and drank their drink and all pretended to shrink and to grow. Then they got down the keys and had to figure out which one fit. In the next room we did our own caucas race. There were colored cut out taped to the floor of all the AW characters. Every time the music stopped whoever was on the white rabbit had to go out.
They all got their party favor bad (a bag decorated with a tea cup and got to pick out shells from the sea). At the next stop we saw Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee and they told us all the story of AW (in case some of the kids didn’t know it well it worked perfectly). The most attentive child won a AW coloring book. Then we went in the garden. They got to paint their own pots and make their own flowers. I had the kids bring a small round pic of themselves and they glued in onto precut flowers then while the kids did other activities we filled their pots with m&ms (after they had dried). Then they went to the next stop where there was a giant Cheshire Cat on the door and we played pin the grin on the Cheshire cat. Next we went to the Mad Hatter tea party. They got to pour their own tea (pop in tea pots). We sang a Very Merry Unbirthday to my daughter. When they were done we split up into two groups. One group played flamingo croquet with inflatable flamingos and giant playing cards and textured balls that looked like groundhogs. And the other group played pass the painted roses (like hot potato but with fake white roses dipped in red paint). Then we switched groups. When we were done w the games and activities we brought out the cake and sang a Very Merry Unbirthday again. Then she opened her presents. After each activity the kids got a theme related prize.
PARTY SNACKS/CAKE: For food at the Mad Hatter Tea Party I had a variety of tea pots filled with water, juice or pop, which they got to pour themselves. Then I filled extra tea cups and pots with snacks like crackers and popcorn and chips. I made each child a plate with a heart shaped mini pizza, a playing card shaped sandwich (peanut butter and jelly with red decorating pen on top to make it look like a card), and a clock (babybel cheese cut in half and laid on a ritz cracker with a edible pen to draw the clock lines and symbols). The cake was a three level topsy turvy cake. The bottom level was the Queen of Hearts theme. It was red with fondant playing card on it. The second level was the Cheshire cat. It was pink and purple striped with a huge grin on the front. And the top level was a tea pot with the number 6 on it! The cake was a huge hit! The kids were amazed at how it looked like it might fall over.
FAVORS: Each kids got to take home their mad hatter hat, their drink me bottle, shells, pot with flower and candy, miniature playing cards with a white rabbit on the front, and a flower shaped ring all in their tea cup bag. I sent a thank you with the pic my daughter had taken with each friend.
