My son turned one last May and I started planning his party propably in March. I decided to not really have a theme, his party was mostly just centered around the number one, primary colors, and stars. Since I enjoy making cards and we only invited about 20 people I decided to make my own invitations. I bought some pre-made cards at Hobby Lobby that you decorate yourself. On the outside I used some colorful striped scrapbook paper and wrote a poem about him. It said, ...mark your calanders you don't want to miss..." On the inside it said "the very first birthday of Zachary Bliss!" I put his picture of him sitting on his bike and on the bottom had the party information. My parents came to help set up for his party. We live in an apartment and were able to rent out the clubhouse which worked out perfect. For decorations my mom and I found foam paper at Hobby Lobby and made number ones on the computer printed them out traced them and cut them out and put holes in the top. Then we strung them on ribbon to make banners. We also found foam stars at Walmart which we also used. On the fire place in the center of the room we cut out the letters to his name and strung it across. For the center pieces on the coffee table we used some of his toys. (A train and a drum.)We also put down some stars and number ones. On the gift table I strung a banner I got at a party store that said Happy 1st birthday and put down some foam number ones and set a stuffed birthday dog my mom had gotten for him. Above the table where we served food we strung another number one banner. We also put up balloons throughout the room and strung them to can goods that we wrapped in wrapping paper. I hung up a poster with a poem I'd written about his first year and next to it glued a foam number one and star. At the cake table we had his funfetti cake which was in the shape of the number one and decorated with candy stars and red blue green and yellow icing. We also made cupcakes which we iced white and put candy stars on. We put a letter candle in each cupcake to spell Happy Birthday Zachary. My mother in law and I made birthday mints in the shape of ballons a cake a clown and stars. These were yellow green and blue. We put them in star shaped sand toys that my mom and I found at the dollar store. We set these out next to the cake. We put foam number ones and stars with confetti on the table too. I bought paper plates and napkins that said "Happy 1st Birthday" that were blue red yellow green and orange. For food we had munchies: a veggie tray little smokie sausages chese dip and crackers and a fruit tray with dip. My mother in law and aunt helped with that. We had soda and water to drink. For his high chair I put up a mylar balloon that I found on ebay which happend to match the plates and napkins. He wore a bib that I had personalized online and my mom printed him a shirt that said I'm One. There were mostly adults at the party so we didn't play too many games. We did play a guessing game called "A snack for Zach" where they had to guess how many Cheerios were in the jar. (My husband counted them all!) The one closest won the game "Uno" (get it?) I also had his one year picture matted and framed. It said "I am special because..." and everyone filled in their answer. It's in his room now. My mother in law got him a wagon for his birthday and he enjoyed going on a ride with some of his friends. For favors my mom and I made number one shaped cookies and filled them with icing to make cookie sandwiches. We put them in a basket and handed them to everyone on the way out. We had a lot of fun celebrating his first birthday and I'm already starting to think about next year. He loves Elmo so I'm starting to get ideas. :)"
