By chance I came across Groovy Girl party supplies on clearance and couldn't pass it up. The theme was so age appropriate for my daughter's upcoming 6th birthday and I thought it would be perfect! To carry out the GROOVY theme, we tried to focus on bright colors(hot pink, purple, orange, lime green), daisies, and young girl fun. To start I sent out a simple e-mail using emoticons to all the girls parents to save" the date and be looking for the invites in the mail. PSSST.... A little birdie told me that Sarah will be celebrating her 6th birthday May 28th (Wed. 3:00). There'll be Food and Games Galore!! Margaritas for the Moms and so much more...!! Save the Date!! Invites are coming soon!! Can't wait to celebrate... Shauna (Sarah's Mom). I ordered the Groovy Girl invites and thank yous along with the party supplies and sent out the invitations about a week later. I also found really cute and inexpensive return address labels(ebay)that had a pink lava lamp and daisies to jazz up the invites. DECORATIONS/Party Room: For impact we set up the party room in our front living room. We had one long CHILDSIZE table (2 tables put together) and chairs to accomodate the girls and covered it w/ hot pink tablecloths groovy daisy confetti Groovy Girl partyware and purple plasticware. Down the center of the table there were 3 balloon bouquets; each w/ a Groovy Girl mylar and hot pink purple orange lime green and yellow balloons. We also had additional balloon bouquets going up our stairwell Groovy Girl centerpieces in between the bouquets on the table and a Groovy Girl birthday banner on the wall. We set up the gift table near the entrance and covered it with a purple tablecloth purple metallic fringe tableskirt and another balloon bouquet. It looked really BRIGHT and PINK- very groovy! To carry on the Groovy theme we hung brightly colored tissue flowers (OT) at varying lengths from our kitchen ceiling. They looked so pretty and cheery and really packed a punch of color! I then carried the theme outdoors(backyard) where we set up a tent along w/ more balloons at the 4 corners a really cute turquoise daisy pinata (celebrate express) suspended from the middle of the tent along w/ additional tissue flowers. ACTIVITIES: The party began outside w/ glitter tattoos for the girls and glitter spray for their hair. We had music playing in the background to set the mood (High School Musical Disney Jamsetc) and I bought metallic ribbon twirlers(OT)for the girls to dance with. The girls LOVED these and I had alot of requests where I got them. We played Groovy Groovy Girl (Duck Duck Goose) Freeze Dance the Groovy Girl balloon stomp - we blew up about 30 balloons and hid 3 pictures of a groovy girl in the balloons; they had to pop the balloons to find the groovy girl (I would recommend playing this game indoors; all the balloons started popping once they touched the grass so it didn't give the girls much oppportunity to pop them)and Musical Chairs. As each girl got eliminated they got to pick out a prize from the prize bowl(tattoos Lisa Frank sticky notepads and magnets)and grand prizes for the winners( glittery butterfly hair ties little pencil kits w/ pencileraserzipper pouchand ruler). FOOD: Our kitchen table was covered with a hot pink tablecloth and more daisy confetti - the centerpiece was a large punch bowl w/ a great strawberry lemonade slush punch. Hot dogs barbeque potato chipsand nachos w/cheese sauce were placed nearby along w/ groovy partyware. For the Moms I set out chips and salsa w/ guacamole along with pitchers of lime and strawberry frozen margaritas to help themselves. We also had juice boxes and waters available outside in coolers for the girls. CAKE: We had store bought white cupcakes frosted in hot pink purple orange and yellow buttercream along w/ pre-scooped neopolitan ice cream in silver cupcake liners - So much easier and quicker especially when serving to 12 excited 6 yr olds and a few toddlers there as well! We also had a cake for the birthday girl and adults. It had whipped cream w/ fresh strawberries and for decoration we ordered the Lizzy McGuire theme without the doll and toppers (we just wanted the bright colors and designs on the cake w/ the wording Happy 6th Birthday Sarah!). After the cake we opened presents - we had 2 chairs side by side and each guest got a turn to sit next to the birthday girl and hold her stuffed kitty (the kitten was her idea) while she opened their present. This was a nice time for my daughter to say thank you and a great photo-op. For the grande finale we had one more surprise and that was the pinata. The girls went crazy and were chanting PIN-YA-TA the whole time until it broke. The party was pretty much non-stop action for 3 hours -we let the girls play until it was time to go. GOODY BAGS: I don't know if I should call these goody bags or goody arrangements; they turned out super cute! I found stuffed hot pink daisy 9" pillow frames on clearance so we had those as our centerpiece along w/ seed bead daisy stretch necklaces(OT) Lisa Frank sticker books Bic glitter pens nail decails yogos and a ring pop.I folded iridescent sheets of cellophane in half; stapled the two sides to make a bag; then I stood the pillow up inside the bag w/ all the other goodies displayed in front. I used 2 different colors of curling ribbon to tie each bag and the tags had a different groovy girl w/ each guests name on it - I made the tags from the paper plates we used for the party. They looked really fabulous if I do say so myself! Each girl was sent home with a groovy goody bag; their ribbon twirler; and candy and tattoos from the pinata. We sent out our Groovy Girl thank yous along with a picture of each girl hitting the pinata and one sitting with the birthday girl. This was my daughter's first big birthday and I really wanted to make it special. I think a groovy time was had by all and we can't wait for next year!"
