When my daughter turned a year old we had children of all ages come to her party. I really wanted to please all of our guests and try to avoid too much hassle. I used "springtime" for my theme, being her party was in April and the day before Easter. Some of our main activities included: Easter egg hunt, painting flower pots and setting up a small pool with a slide in the back yard for freetime fun. We had plenty of outside toys available for all the kids, everything from the pool, sandbox, pails and shovels to basketball and badminton! We opted not to use party hats being none ever seems to like them anymore, so the party girl had one special hat instead, it was so cute because it was actually a headband with antenna like flowers and butterflies sticking out of it. This was a store bought item but I find they are very easy too make and would make a great alternative to the traditional party hats. We had goodie bags filled with some candy, small bottles of bubbles, flower seed packets for the children's pots they painted, and swirlly straws. For food, we had plenty of chips and salsa, peanuts and other nuts, we made some quesadillas out of tortillas and cheese, we had of course our cake & ice-cream and made sure their was plenty of beverages. In the end I found that everyone had a great time, including myself. Planning is key! However I have found that when children are involved- the real key to having a great time, is to be relaxed!!
