My daughter turned 7 this year and every year it gets more complicated because we can never do the same thing twice.  Her birthday is in the beginning of March which can make it difficult to plan.  Luckily, I found a great venue which was a local horse farm since she wanted a horse" party.  I decided to go shabby chic and used pink & chocolate.  The venue had a large barn where we could set up the food a covered riding arena and outdoor corral. It was a very nice day so we got to set up and ride the horses outside.

INVITATIONS:  We invited about 40 people.  I made invitations using my computer and Cricut.  The information was printed on a piece of white card stock which was sewn to a piece of burlap and then glued to a larger piece of light pink card stock. I had left an area in the middle near the top of the card blank so I could glue stars cut from the same pink card stock.  I then took leather cord and wrapped it around the entire invite 3 times at the star and I attached a brown horse which was "popped" up off the leather cord.  On the ends of the cord I glued silver star brads which looked like they dangled.  The invite was probably the nicest one I have made for my one of my kids parties.  We got lots of compliments about how professional they looked.  They said "saddle up and trot this way to celebrate my daughters's birthday.  The RSVP said message mom with a yeah or neigh.

DECORATIONS: I used a lot of fabric particularly with the pink and chocolate brown colors some prints with polka-dots a paisley gingham check and several others.  We continued to used burlap on the tables fabric banner I made and the pennant flags used to decorate.  Everything was really well coordinated since the same fabrics were used every where.  I do not sew so I glued or double side taped everything. I made pennants then stuck them in buckets on the kid's and adult table. Under the buckets I placed mini doily table runners to continue the shabby chic theme.  I also used white paper doilies glued together on top of the burlap on the food/drink tables to create a table runner. We lined up three rows of 5 hay bales.  We had about a foot between the 3 rows and we covered the center row with more burlap.  The kids used this area to sit and eat.

SNACKS : The party was from 2-4pm so we severed cake cupcakes ice cream and white chocolate covered pretzels sprinkled with pink sugar.  To wrangle the kids in we rang a cow bell.  They all came running o find out what was going on.  We had a friend make chocolate horse head suckers which were covered with a plastic bag then tied with a pink ribbon.  We then stuck them in a faux hay bale which sat on the dessert table.  The cupcakes were sat on the opposite side of he table on a little larger faux hay bale.

CAKE: The cake was set in the middle of the table on milk glass cake stand. It was 2 tiers covered with pink rosettes. I made a banner out of craft paper and glitter glue which spelled out my daughter's name and I tied to bamboo sticks stuck in the top of the cake. I made an additional banner with her name which we stuck in the hay bale near the cupcakes.  I borrowed some of the mason jars with the daisy cut in the lids from a friend for the kids to drink from.  The adults drank from quart size mason jars.  On the drink table we had strawberry- lemonade in a large glass dispenser and sweet tea.  We placed a galvanized wash pan near the drink table and filled it with ice & canned sodas. We used all glass plates and had wrapped the utensils with pink paper napkins which were tied with a piece of twine.  I had made signs which said chow time for the dessert table and water hole for the drink table.

GAMES: We only had 3activities beside horse back riding. We played Pin the tail on the horse which I had made and placed on a piece of white board.  The kids loved the game. I also made a big piñata it too was a it hit.  I used a big punch ball to mold the shape and over a three day period I managed to cover it with paper mâché.  After it was dry I popped the balloon filled it with candy then covered the hole. After that I used white school glue to make crepe paper rosettes to cover the entire piñata.  This took about 3 more days. Near the piñata I hung up a sign which read Piñata Pen.  It was well worth the trouble & I  enjoyed the challenge.  Last but not least I had a table set up or the kids to make bracelets or necklaces just incase the horse back riding got boring.  I had made a sign which said craft corral at this table

FAVORS: Before the party was over we gave out favor bags.  I used brown paper lunch bags which were folded down  with a white doily glued across the top and tied close with a piece of twine.  I used the same horse from the invitation only a little bigger on the front of the bag.  We strung up a piece of twine and clothes pinned the favor bags to the twine. They worked  as decorations as well. Inside the bag was a pack of sidewalk chalk and play-doh for little kids and crayons pencil and coloring sticker for older kids.  I also put 2 suckers each of the bags. We used brown twine to tie bags for little kids and pink twine for older kids. That way we didn't have to dig around inside to figure out which bag went to who. The party was very shabby chic with because we used both new and old stuff lots of fabric glass and burlap. It was a  complete success and she loved every minute of it.  "
