Clifford the Big Red Dog 2nd Birthday Party My daughter loves Clifford and has for a while so I thought it would be perfect to have it as the theme for her second birthday party.
The invitations I cut pieces of yellow cardstock(8 1/2 by 11) into rectangles and sheets of red(12 x 12)into triangles. Then I cut out some white ovals(halfed them) and printed some Clifford faces from the internet (PBS or Schlastic websites). I glued the half ovals onto the bottom of the yellow rectangle, wrote Clifford's name above the white piece and then glued the Clifford face onto it.
For the party details I printed it on a dark yellow vellum overlay and then glued it on under the red triangles for the roof. It looked like Clifford's dog house!
As for decorations, we did not do too much and since we had it at a local pizza parlor we did not have to over do it. We purchased half a dozen Clifford mylar balloons and mixed one with a handful of blue and yellow latex balloons for the centerpieces. There were Clifford squirters from a toy store laid on the tables.
We covered all the tables with blue, red and yellow tablecloths to have all the Clifford colors.
For the activities, I made a large Clifford Dog House out of a large piece of yellow posterboard. I made a red roof and half oval door in white. I had it lamenated as well as some Cliffords the I enlarged and had put all the kids names on. We then played put Clifford in his house--like Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
We also had a table set up for coloring Clifford pages that I printed from the internet as well as many books to look at and read. It worked really well since we had a range of ages.
As for food, since we had it at a pizza parlor, the main course was taken care of. We did have a plate full of fruit--strawberries, pineapple and blueberries(red, yellow and blue, imagine that). I found some juice that had Clifford, Cleo and T-Bone on the tops (they can be found at some Target and Kroger stores) and the children had those.
I made cupcakes for everyone and purchased some edible hard sugar Clifford's to put on top of all the children's cupcakes (Party Works online).
For the adult cupcakes we just had red sprinkles. The favors for the children were blue plastic pails filled with some coloring pages, crayons, Clifford bubbles, Clifford stickers, Clifford squirters and Clifford dog ears--which the children loved to wear around. We gave them out while the birthday girl was opening her gifts so they had something to open also. It worked out great!
Overall, it took some planning and time, but it was well worth it. We had a great time and we have great memories as well as fantastic photos.
