My daughter has been wild about the 50's ever since I bought her a 50's costume for Halloween. So for her 7th Birthday Party, that was to be the theme. We had it at the local skating rink (I told her they skated and bowled for fun and she chose skating).
For the invitations, I bought the Rock and Roll door decorations with the records on string. There was like 72 of them and we just cut them apart and pulled out the string. They were the perfect size and a lot cuter and cheaper than the already made invitations. We wrote on one side: Rock and Roll" to (name's) 7th Birthday Party. On the other side we wrote the date time place and dress:50's attire. We would provide scarves and black combs.
My daughters and I wore poodle skirts and white button up shirts. Some wore rolled up jeans and penny loafers. There are lots of options. We purchased Cursive Initial Letters for the girls to add to their shirts. One of my family members has a '56 Buick we used this for pictures before we went in to skate. Shutterfly will develop your pictures in BLACK AND WHITE. I thought this would go great with our theme and a perfect Thank you card. We also had a hula hoop contest for the girls and yo-yo contest for the boys. Inside I had the Jukebox and Guitar scene setters (Partycheap.com). We also took pictures with the jukebox. I ordered a banner from Shindigz.com. They have a whole page of fifties banners to choose from. I wrote Have a Rockin 7th Birthday (name). I also got some pink black and white 50's balloons from Shindigz and we used 50 of them on the ceiling. I used the Sock Hop themed plates and tablecloths and the Fabulous 50's themed napkins. I bought the LITTLE GLASS BOTTLED COKES from Wal-Mart for the kids. We had KRYSTAL hamburgers that I ordered plain and put our own ketchup and mustard bottles out (Wal-Mart has the red and yellow condiment bottles for cheap).
We had McDonalds fries in the red and white plaid trays. (Retroplanet.com) For dessert we had Coke or RootBeer Floats. I bought COKE GLASSES at the Dollar Tree. Everyone loved them. They even had little ones for our smaller guests. I bought neon straws (used pink and turquoise) for my COKE straw dispenser and long TEA spoons in Neon. One cake was a RECORD. It was a one layer round cake with chocolate frosting. I took a fork and made grooves. In the center I wrote Rock and Roll (name) and put the # 7 candle in the middle. For our second cake I used the Wonder Mold Cake Pan and made a poodle skirt on the doll added a white shirt cursive letter ribbons around the neck and in the hair. She was really cute. I put a poodle beside her. (BirthdayExpress.com) I had some Hot pink and turquoise cups plates and spoons for the adults.
For our party favors: I ordered CAR boxes for the boys (CruisinUSA.com) It was a '55 Chevy Bel Air cardboard. They were soooooo cute! The boys loved them. They have all kinds of cars to choose from. I filled them with Blues Brothers Sunglasses Fuzzy Dice Hamburger Yo-Yo's Fifties Die Cast Cars ( all from RhodeIsland Novelty.com) and Retro candy: Bazooza Fun Dip Rock Candy from Dollar Tree and wax COKE bottles and music keychains from Oriental Trading Company and 50's stickers from partycheap.com. (CruisinUSA also has a great selection of 50's shirts for men!) For the girls we used the Rock and Roll Favor Boxes from Haga's Party Supplies. We filled them with Rinestone Sunglasses Dice Keychains from RhodeIsland Novelty.com Guitar Bubble Necklaces from Oriental and the Yo-Yo's Dice Stickers and Candy mentioned above. This party took a lot of planning and research on the web but it was worth it. The kids and the adults had a blast. Even the people at the skating rink thought it was a perfect themed party. I hope this will save you some time planning your 50's event. "
